What is FrankerFaceZ (FFZ)?

FrankerFaceZ, often shortened to FFZ, is a free browser extension that enhances your Twitch experience. It works on common browsers like Chrome, Firefox and others. FFZ adds features that Twitch doesn’t have by default, such as:

  • Custom emotes: Images or animations you can use in chat.
  • Custom Badges: Vips & Mods have their own style or design like the channel theme
  • Chat customization: Change how the chat looks, like fonts, colors, or hiding annoying messages.
  • Extra settings: Tools to make watching or moderating streams easier.
  • Plugins (add-ons): Optional features, like seeing emotes from other services (e.g., BetterTTV or 7TV).

Think of FFZ as a way to personalize Twitch to suit your preferences, whether you’re a viewer, streamer, or moderator. It’s especially popular because it’s easy to use and makes Twitch chats more lively and interactive.

note

FFZ only works on desktop browsers, not on the Twitch mobile app. Both streamers and viewers need to have FFZ installed to see FFZ-specific emotes in chat.

FFZ Plugins (Add-Ons)

FFZ supports add-ons that add even more features. Popular add-on is the 7tv Emotes / BetterTTV Emotes, which lets you use see emotes from other services like BetterTTV (BTTV) and 7TV without installing those extensions separately. Here’s how to enable it:

  1. Open the FFZ Control Center.
  2. Go to Add-Ons.
  3. Find BetterTTV Emotes and 7TV Emotes and click Enable.

This is great because many Twitch users use BTTV or 7TV emotes, and enabling these add-ons lets you see and use them in FFZ. You don’t need to clutter your browser with multiple extensions!
